David Sear notes that "...Julian was a man of considerable literary attainments and some of his writing are still extant. He strongly favored the old religion, with which he had far more sympathy than with the Christian creed which he had been forced to adopt, and this caused the Church historians of the period to stigmatize him as 'the Apostate'; but the title 'Philosopher' which he was also given, is probably more just ..."
* An AE 1, 28mm/diameter; 8.4gm, struck at the mint of Thessalonica. Diademed, draped & cuirassed bust of the Emperor inscribed DNFLCLIULIANUSPFAUG, the reverse showing an excellent image of the Bull with two stars above, inscribed SECURITASREIPUB with *TESA- in exurgis.
* Another AE 1, 28mm/diameter, 8.2gm, struck at the mint of Constantinople. Diadmed, draped & cuirassed bust of the Emperor inscribed DNFLCLIULIANUSPFAUG, the reverse showing an excellent image of the Bull with two stars above. Same reverse but inscription in exurgis is .CONSPB.
